The Song of the Free by Swami Vivekananda Summary
The poem begins with the author’s words: “A wounded snake’s hood opens and signals danger; fire flares if you interfere, and the desert wind echoes the cry of anger from an enraged lion. When lightning pierces the clouds, they reveal their full power.”
When our souls awaken to their full depths, greatness is revealed at its peak. This is when humanity rises to greatness.
Let your eyes dim and your heart weaken, and let friendships break and love betray, let fate send hundreds of troubles, and let dense darkness block your path. Let all these things come your way, for only then will you become a strong and great person in life.
All nature frowns angrily, ready to crush you—yet know, my soul, you are divine. Keep moving forward, neither right nor left, but toward the goal.” Let all problems come your way, but you must not be distracted by them; just focus on your goals and dreams and keep moving forward.
You may be going through a difficult phase in your life, you may have lost your friends and your lover, but you must never give up and keep moving forward. And one day, you will definitely reach your destination.
