When the poem was written in 1910, India was a slave to Britishers. All the Indian were slave of Britishers, they were forced to work long hours, even small children were working under Britishers. No one in India had the right to live a free and peaceful life. We Indian used to live in fear and work under them. In poem, author is imaging a free India, where everyone has right to speak, live and read.

The poet is imaging a India where our mind will not fear anyone, people will live with pride and honour. In that India, knowledge will be free, everyone has a right to take education. Where India will not be broken up on the basis of caste, colour and status.

In the poem where the mind is without fear the country is imagined as free where there is no discrimination among people, where everyone will be treated equally. Where words will come out from heart with truth and no there will be no deception. Where everyone will work hard to make their country proud. Where people will live like family and no one will harm anyone.

Where everyone single person will contribute to make India a greatest country in the world. Where everyone will use his mind to create something valuable for the country and humankind. A country where everyone will treat each respectfully and has no hate for anyone.

An India where its peoples thinking is bigger than ourselves, where we have a mindset to change the world. Where our action will the bigger than  our words. In that free India, everyone will rome and live freely.
