Summary of The Sower Poem By Victor Hugo

The story of poem begins with poet who says, one day I was sitting at an entrance of my home and watching sunset. The evening is passing fast and night is coming. Evening has started, daylight is fading slowly-slowly, and darkness is falling everywhere.

The poet say shadow has covered all the land which means it has become dark, but I saw farmer in this darkness who is still standing is his farm in such darkness. He is looking very old and wearing torn clothes. And he was standing patiently in his farm. The poet is looking at very old farmer who is standing in his farm in darkness.

I felt excited by looking at old farmer in darkness. When you look at hard working person, you feel excited and energetic. And poet is having a same feeling. The farmer’s shadow was very dark and big and it was becoming bigger in more darkness. The poet is looking at farmer and made perception his mind. The poet say, maybe farmer is thinking to do a farming of seed so that his harvest should be ready when times comes to reap.

In these lines, poet is telling us about the hard work of farmers. Farmer is old and not strong enough but still thinking of farming a seed in such darkness. The young people who avoid work should learn some lessons from farmers. The poem is teaching is us to not to give up in life no matter what. The farmer is old but not giving up.

The poet say, farmer is going from one place to another place and roaming in his farm. He is walking in his farmland and spreading seeds from his hands. These seeds are very precious as crops will be prepared from these seeds and will give money to farmer.

The poet say I became moody by looking at that farmer. When I saw him working hard in such old age, I felt bad. Light fades and dark night comes. It is so dark that I was not able to see farmer gestures. Now I don’t know what farmer is doing as it is very dark. The poet say, farmer is such a great and hard working person that his height is touching sky. I’m not able to see him because of darkness but the farmer is great person.
