The poem begins with the poet’s statement that he should stop chanting, praying, and chanting the rosary, as they will accomplish nothing. Who are you praying to while sitting in the dark corner of the temple? All your doors are closed, so who are you praying to while sitting alone? Open your eyes and see that your God is not right there in front of you.
The poet says that God is with the farmer tilling the hard soil, and with the path-maker breaking the hard stones. God is with them in the scorching sun and heavy rain, and God’s clothes are covered with dust, just as they are with hardworking people. Put down your sacred rosary and come out of the temple and work in the soil.
Praying alone will not achieve anything in life; you must work hard for yourself and your family. The poet is trying to say that God is with the farmer and the path-maker because they are hardworking people and not dependent on God. It doesn’t matter whether they pray to God or not; they are working hard, so God is with them. God helps only those who help themselves.
The poet asks, “Where will you find relief from your problems and stress? Our God himself has willingly taken upon himself the responsibilities of creation.” The poet wants to say, “If God is working hard, why aren’t you? Why are you running away from your problems and stress? Face them like a true human being. God is eternally connected to all of us.”
Come out of your meditation and worship. Leave your flowers and incense behind. What’s the harm if your clothes get torn and stained during work? If you work hard, your clothes will get covered in dust, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Come and meet God and stand with Him in every problem and challenge. Work with God and sweat.”
This is a simple poem but carries a very important message. You can’t rely solely on God; you can’t solve your life’s problems through prayer and worship. You have to work hard, work hard until you become the best at what you do. Remember, God only helps those who help themselves. If you work hard, God will support you.
