Summary of Ecology Poem By A.K Ramanujan
The story of poem begins with poet who says, whenever first season of rain comes, I return home in anger. It has been happening for years that whenever first rain of year come, I go home in rage. Whenever I return to my home, I could see it from 1 mile away that my home’s three Red trees has did it again. The Red trees did the same thing which they are doing for years.
Here poet mean to say, when monsoon’s first rain comes, the flowers grows in our three red trees whose smell gives my mother migraine of the season. In season, whenever flowers grows in our trees, its smell gives migraine to my mother. The flowers has that much heavy fragrance that it smell spread all around street of our home which even air cannot change. The flowers heavy smell gives headache to my mother which angers me.
The poet says, our home is very old which is made up of black pillared and its walls has ears and eyes. Our house’s door and walls can’t keep anything outside from the home. Here poet mean to say that his house is so old that it cannot keep smell, rain and nightly voices out from the home. These things come easily inside of our home as our home has many tiny holes in it.
It is true that if I would ask my mother to cut these trees, she won’t let me cut it even though she suffers migraine because of these trees. The poet says, my mother believe that no human has planted these trees as it was planted by birds and they planted it here for a purpose.
These trees has many uses like we use these tree’s flowers to give gods and their daughters. As we are using these trees to serve gods and their daughters, we cannot cut it. We cannot cut it because this place is chosen by god for them.
The way people give dowry generation by generation is the same way migraine will pass from generation to generation. In poem we get to see two point of view from two generation, first is son who has no attachment with nature and was ready to cut down the trees of his home. Second is mother who don’t want to cut the trees even though she is suffering migraine because of it.
As generation passes by, we are getting away from the nature. We need to develop love for the nature as takes nothing from us and give us many things. You all should develop love for trees as without trees there would be no life.
