Summary of A Wrong Man in Workers’ Paradise By Rabindranath Tagore

The story of essay begins with a man who keeps thinking about himself all the time. He waste his most of time in useless and needless activities. He always waste his time in things which doesn’t have any reason or purpose. Like he waste his time by picturing on jug and building statues of man, woman and king.

The people around him watch him, laugh at him and make fun of him as he waste his valuable time in useless things for no reason. As people make fun of him and his work, he thinks of quitting his work, he promised himself to quit wasting time but couldn’t do it.

When he died on earth, sudden changes comes to his life when aerial messenger send him in Paradise instead of hell. When man goes into paradise, he saw that paradise people are very busy, they are not wasting their time not even a second. All the workers in paradise are utilizing their time on right things.

That man doesn’t learn anything from them and starts roaming everywhere in paradise. He was wasting his time in paradise as well even though all the workers around him was busy in their work.

The man keeps wasting his time in paradise and disturb others workers as well. When farmers in Paradise saw him, they make fun of him as he is in paradise and still wasting his time. The man sits idly at a banks of river in paradise. At banks of river, a girl comes to fill her Jug with drinking water.

The girl comes in speed and goes in speed as she doesn’t have time to waste. She was so busy in her work that she doesn’t have a time to comb her hair properly. She always comes in hurry and goes in hurry. When girl saw man at banks of river she feels pity for him.

She feels pity for him because he doesn’t have any work to do. She ask him, doesn’t he have any work to do ? On this, man replied that he doesn’t have any time for work. She doesn’t understand what that man is trying to say to her, but she tells him that if he wants, then she can find a work for him.

Afterwards, man ask for clay pot from girl to draw paintings on it. The girl gets angry and tells man that she doesn’t have time for these useless things. She goes away in bad mood. Next day, when girls comes again to fill water, she meets man again.

He again ask for Clay pot from girl to draw paintings on it. It keeps goes on for 2-3 days. After few days, girl agrees and she give him her Clay pot. Thereafter, man draws paintings on it. After drawing picture on pot, he returns it back to girl.

When man returns pot to girl, she doesn’t understand the painting and lines on it. She ask man, what’s the meaning or purpose of this painting ? The man laughs on this and tells her that it doesn’t have any meaning or purpose. The girl returns to her home with pot in hand. When girl returns home, she saw her painted pot thoroughly to understand the purpose of painting but she was not able to understand the meaning of painting.

On the next day, girl is going again to fill water but she seems changed now, she is going slowly now and is in confusion. When she reach river and saw man again there, she ask him in confusion, what does he want from her ? The man replied that he wants to make a colored ribbon for her. Afterwards, man make a colored ribbon for girl and when he gives it to her, she waste lots of her time in tying ribbon to her hair.

When girl started wasting her time in ribbon, her work went unfinished. She becomes lazy day after day and was not focusing on her work. She lost the true value of her time. Thereafter, slowly-slowly paradise people are changing and becoming lazy. The Paradise workers are becoming lazy as their focus is shifting from work to man’s painting and sculptures.

The Paradise’s old aged people are worrying as it has never happened before in paradise. This is for the first time happening in paradise that people are leaving their work unfinished. To know the reason of people becoming lazy, paradise people set up a meeting. In meeting, aerial messenger reveals that he made a big mistake, he bring a man of hell in Paradise by mistake.

And that is why all these things are happening. The Presidents of paradise calls that man and ask him to leave their paradise. The wrong man take a breathe of relief and starts going from paradise with his colors in hands. As he was leaving paradise, the river girl comes and tells him that she also wants to go with him. The story of essay ends with the decision of girl, who decides to go with lazy man which completely shocked the people of paradise.
