Summary of Tiger Hills Class 11 By Ved Prakash Malik

Tiger Hills is a true story of the 1999 Kargil War. Tiger Hill is the highest mountain in Kargil, located in Ladakh, India. General Ved Prakash Malik was the Chief of Army Staff during the Kargil War.

The story of Tiger Hills begins with Brigadier MPS Bajwa, an Indian Army commander. He assigned his troops the mission of capturing Tiger Hill. He tasked his troops with capturing it from Pakistani troops. Pakistani troops were in control of Tiger Hill, so Brigadier MPS Bajwa’s team would go there, kill the Pakistanis, and recapture Tiger Hill from them.

To capture Tiger Hill, Brigadier Bajwa assigned 18 Grenadiers and 8 Sikh soldiers. In June 1999, Brigadier Bajwa’s 18 Grenadiers established a path to attack the enemy on Tiger Hill, attacking them from multiple directions.

On the day of the battle, Indian troops used 120 field and medium guns and 122mm multibarrel Grad rockets. The Air Force was also used during the attack, which attacked them between July 2-3. Tiger Hill measures 2200 meters from west to east and 1000 meters from north to south.

At 7:00 pm on July 3, when the weather was very bad and darkness was all around, 18 Grenadiers attacked the hill from multiple directions. The next day, on July 4, at 4:00 am, Sachin Nimbalkar and Balwant Singh climbed Tiger Hill without warning and captured their enemies.

MPS Bajwa and Mohinder Puri ordered 8 Sikh soldiers to take the helmets and capture India Gate located on Tiger Hill. Majors Ravindra Singh and RK Sherawat led the Sikh army and successfully captured India Gate, brutally defeating their enemies. On the other hand, a force of 8 Sikhs captured the helmet.

The story now turns to the author, General Ved Prakash Malik, who was in New Delhi. On July 3, the day of the Tiger Hills battle, the author was very worried. The next day, Krishna Pal, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15th Corps, went to General Ved Prakash at 6 a.m. and informed him that the 18 Grenadiers had captured Tiger Hill and the fighting was still ongoing.

After consulting with Krishna Pal and Nirmal Chandra Vij, the author decided to wait for confirmation from the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8th Mountain Division. At 7:30 a.m., Mohinder Puri confirmed to the author that the Pakistani army could not dislodge the 18 Grenadiers from Tiger Hill. Following this, the author informed Brajesh Mishra, who was then the National Security Advisor to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

On 8 July, when Tiger Hill was successfully captured, 18 Grenadiers hoisted the Indian flag on one of the peaks of Tiger Hill.
