Summary of I am the Land By Marina De Bellagente

The story of poem begins with speaker which is Land and speaking to the people, she explains that you say you own me, I wait. You buy me, sell me and build house on me, still I wait patiently. You own me, sell me and dominate me, still I doesn’t argue with you, I just wait and wait.

You shout on me, I lie patiently. The people keep saying that they own the land still I wait patiently. You makes holes in me and runs big vehicles on me, I wait and stare you doing these things on me.

Then someone tickles me, dig big holes in me, grows plants, fruits and trees on me. Your children dance on me. You do whatever you feel like to do, I patiently tolerate everything and wait.

In this stanza, speaker is talking about soldiers who fire with guns on each other, through which people die and fall on land. It hurts the land when people die on it. But Earth still calmly wait.

In the last stanza, Earth is telling people that they cannot put a fence on it. Here speaker mean to say, that man can’t build a fence all around the earth as it is impossible for them to do it. Whatever people do on Earth, she tolerate it and waits because she is our Mother.
