The story of poem revolve around a life of little girl whose mother and father is dead. The girl is orphan and has no one to look after. The writer is thinking about a future of orphan girl and thinking how she is going to survive in this cruel world.
The story of poem begins with three lines epigraph. She is still young and innocent, it seemed like she is chosen to face all the problems of this cruel world. She is poor friendless and wandering everywhere. The orphan girl hair is black like a raven’s wings, and her cheek are pink like tulip flower. Her voice is soft like night winds sound. Her forehead shines like a moon light.
Her father joined a war where battle was going on and people were dying and getting badly injured. Her father knew that he would die in this war and it did happen, he died. He was buried with honor. But now he is no more in the world. This is a prize of brave people. Here poet means, good people who cares for others and fight for their country, get only death in the end.
Her mother was anguished, her heart could not bear the pain that she become a widow. She could not able to handle her husband death. And she died of a heart attack. Now their, daughter is parent less. The little orphan girl has no friend on this cold world to give her shelter, home and food. There is no one in this world to look after this little girl. She have to go ahead in life alone.
It is very sad thing that all the people who live in sorrow and pain, do not have any friends. Here poet mean to say, no one wants to be a friend of poor people as everyone want to be friend with only rich and happy people. The poet don’t want girl to go on virtue’s way because she is alone and this cruel world won’t let her live peacefully. If she wants to survive in this world, then she have to quit virtue’s way.
Shame has enough power that it can bend anybody’s chest. Neither pain nor guilt has as much as power as shame does. No one’s sorrow has as much power, no one guilt has as much power as Shame has. Because shame can bend people chest.
But it is very cruel and wrong to wound a little girl who is living alone. The girl is going to face so much pain that her eyes tears brightness would be visible to everyone. His or her name will be honored and blessed forever who will give shelter to poor little girl and protect her from cruelty.
