Summary of The Dance of the Eunuchs By Kamala Das
The story of poem begins with poetess who say, it was summer time and it was hot, so hot, until eunuchs came to dance, those eunuchs were wearing big skirts which was going round and round. When they were dancing their skirts were going round and round. The cymbals were ringing loudly and their anklets were making jingling, jingling, jingling sound.
They were dancing beneath the fiery gulmohur tree, their long hair were flying, their dark eyes were shining, they danced, danced and danced till their foot bled. They had green color tattoos on to their cheeks, their hair had jasmine flowers which where were black and fair in color.
Their voices were hard, there were pain in their songs, they were singing on lovers and unborn children. Some of them was playing drums while few were beating their sorry breasts, wailed and they were twisting their body. Their body parts were very thin and dry like half burnt logs from funeral pyres. All of them had drought and rottenness.
Even the crows were silent on trees when they were singing and dancing, and children were watching them silent and focus. The Sky crackled then, thunderstorm came, lightning came and a meager rain which mixed with smell of dust on land. When meagre rain mixed with the soil, which contained lizard and mouse urine, a foul smell spread there.
