Summary of Leave this Chanting By Rabindranath Tagore

The story of poem begins with poet who says, leave chanting, praying, and telling of beads as you are not going to achieve anything by doing it. Who are you worshiping and praying by sitting dark corner of temple ? All your doors are closed so who are you praying sitting alone. Open your eyes and see that your god is not in front of you.

The poet says god is with tiller who is tilling the hard ground, god is with path maker who is breaking hard stones. God is with them in harsh sun and heavy rain, god’s clothes are covered in dust as they are with hard working people. Put down your holy garland, and comes out from temple and do some work in soil.

By just praying you won’t get anything in life, you have to work hard for yourself and your family. The poet trying to say god is with tiller and path maker because they are hard working people and not dependent on god. It doesn’t matter whether they pray to god or not, they are working hard so god is with them. God only help those who help themselves.

The poet say, where you will find deliverance from your problems and tension ? Our god has himself joyfully taken upon him the bonds of creation. The poet mean to say, if god is also working hard then why you are not ? Why are you running away from your problems and tensions. Face them like real men. God is bound with all us forever.

Come out from your meditation and worship. Leave behind your flowers and incense. What’s the harm if your clothes get tattered and stained in work ? If you will work hard then your clothes would stained in dust but nothing is wrong with it. Come and meet god and stand with him in every problems and challenges. Work with god and sweat out.

It is a simple poem but gives very important message. You can’t be just dependent on god, you can’t solve your life problems by praying and worshiping, you have to work hard, work hard until you become best in your work. Remember, God only help those who help themselves. If you will work hard, god will support you.
