Virtue is a short poem written by English poet and Orator, George Herbert. The poem was originally published in 1633 in poet’s famous collection, “The Temple”. The poem explores the theme of virtue and nature. Virtue is a 16 lines poem which is divided into four quatrains.

The story of poem begins with poet narrating splendid day which is very cool, calm and bright. The poet describes a beautiful day which people love enjoying. It feels like it is a partner of earth and sky. The dew of the day is crying because today night will come again. The night will come and splendid day will end. Here poet mean to say, no matter how beautiful the day is, it will end.
The sweet red rose whose color reflect anger and braveness and whoever look at rose with focused eyes, it force him to wipe his eyes. And the roots of you are always in grave and one day you will die sure. It is fixed no matter how beautiful the Rose is, one day he will die for sure.

The sweet spring season which is known for beautiful days and where roses generally thrive and bloom. The spring season is like a box where all the sweetness of the world is stored. But my poem emphasize that your season also ends and you also die. And all must die.
Here poet mean to say, not just spring ends, its beautiful days ends, and beautiful roses ends. One day, everything ends no matter how beautiful or thriving it is
Only sweet and virtuous soul never gives up like season’d timber. Here poet mean to say, if our soul is beautiful and virtuous, it never give up. But though the whole world turn to coal, still beautiful and virtuous soul chiefly lives. The soul which is beautiful and has good qualities, it never dies.
The central them of poem is virtuous which means good habits, writer emphasizes that beautiful things ends, everything ends, but good quality and good behavior soul never die. Therefore, if you want to live forever, be a virtuous person.
